McGUINTY GOVERNMENT TO ADJOURN LEGISLATURE EARLY
LIBERALS REFUSE TO CONSIDER DIRECT ELECTION OF REGIONAL
CHAIR OR PROTECTION OF CHILDREN IN SPORTS
Queens Park – With the spring legislative session not
due to end until June 28th, Dalton McGuinty and the provincial
Liberals have announced the adjournment of the Ontario Legislature
and prorogued the session of Parliament – three weeks
ahead of schedule.
Jerry Ouellette, MPP Oshawa was adamantly opposed to this
decision by the government to adjourn the Legislature early.
“I am very disappointed that key issues the Opposition
has raised will not be addressed by the government, “says
Mr. Ouellette. “This is clearly an escape attempt by
Dalton McGuinty who is running and hiding from having to answer
questions about his broken promises.”
Mr. Ouellette’s private member’s Bill 172, which
would require the direct election of the Durham Regional Chair,
passed Second Reading on April 5th and was referred to the
Standing Committee of General Government.
Bill 201, also introduced by Mr. Ouellette, which would protect
children playing in organized amateur sports, passed Second
Reading on April 26th and was ordered referred to the Standing
Committee on Social Policy.
“I am very displeased that as a result of the McGuinty
government’s action some key legislation including these
bills will die on the order paper”, stated Mr. Ouellette.
“On a positive note I will be able to spend more time
in my riding of Oshawa working directly with my constituents”,
adds Ouellette.
