OUELLETTE ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS

OSHAWA – Oshawa MPP Jerry Ouellette announces today municipal fire departments in his riding of Oshawa will receive a total of $178,000 to help meet training needs and to purchase new equipment. This is part of a $30 million provincial investment through the Ministry of

“This is welcome news to our local fire departments,” said Mr. Ouellette.

Oshawa Fire Chief Steve Meringer says the funding will help fire services deal with emerging needs such as HAZMAT training and terrorism preparedness. He says, “Oshawa Fire Services is very happy with this funding announcement and it’s very timely. We can use these finances for training and equipment needs that couldn’t be achieved in our budget.”

Mr. Ouellette is concerned that the provincial investment is $10 million dollars less than the previous government’s announcement and he hopes there is “some leeway so that the local fire services can best determine where the funds are needed.”
