OSHAWA - Jerry J. Ouellette, MPP Oshawa, fears the worst as
the provincial Liberal government moves forward with Bill
206, An Act to revise the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement
System Act.
Mr. Ouellette says, “Yesterday during government committee
hearings representatives from the Canadian Union of Public
Employees (CUPE) threatened a province-wide strike if the
government proceeds with this legislation.”
“There are more than 350,000 Ontario residents who
would be involved in job action should the unions decide to
strike over this,” says Mr. Ouellette. “Ontario’s
economic situation has seen enough hardship over the past
two years without having to endure a situation like this as
well.”
