OUELLETTE COORDINATES PROGRAM TO HELP FIRST NATION CHILDREN
Queen’s Park – Jerry Ouellette MPP, Oshawa today
outlined a unique and beneficial program he has been able
to help coordinate between members of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation
and the community of Oshawa.
Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) represents the aspirations of
dozens of First Nation Communities in northern Ontario.
“With the help of NAN Grand Chief Stan Beardy, we have
been able to organize a program that will greatly enhance
the lives of First Nation kids in these communities”,
says Ouellette.
In many remote communities, children are not given the opportunity
to participate in quality recreational activities because
they lack the resources and access to equipment to take part.
Throughout the past summer and fall, quantities of used hockey
equipment were generously donated by individuals and organizations
in Oshawa to be shipped to children in these northern Ontario
communities.
“I would like to thank all the generous individuals
in Oshawa who contributed to this great cause,” says
Ouellette. “I would also like to extend a special thank
you to Rockbrune Brothers Ltd. for moving the equipment, Dave
& Jill at Crows Sports for their valuable work, the Oshawa
Minor Hockey Association and the Oshawa Girls Hockey Association
for their extra effort.”
