OUELLETTE DISAPPOINTED FOLLOWING GM ANNOUNCEMENT

Queen’s Park - Jerry J. Ouellette, MPP Oshawa, voicing concerns over today’s General Motors announcement.

This announcement includes plans to shut down Oshawa Car Plant

Mr. Ouellette says, “This reaffirms the importance that all levels of government need to focus on an auto sector strategy and further emphasize the need for consumers to support “Made in Ontario” products.”

In December 2005 Mr. Ouellette introduced private member’s legislation which if passed will assist in developing a provincial government strategy to aid the auto manufacturing sector.

The role of government is to create an environment which promotes the active development of industry. The current provincial government has downplayed this role. Mr. Ouellette says, “The auto sector is the engine that drives the economic situation in the province of Ontario, and this is what the government should focus on.”
