DESPITE OVERWHELMING OPPOSITION McGUINTY GOVERNMENT DELISTING HEALTH SERVICES

QUEEN’S PARK –“The Dalton McGuinty government refuses to listen to the people of Ontario”, exclaimed Jerry Ouellette, MPP for Oshawa.

After introducing a regressive health tax that will cost Ontario families up to $1800 per year, the McGuinty government will begin delisting key health services from OHIP coverage. Under the government’s new plan, Ontario residents will have to pay out of their own pocket for chiropractic, physiotherapy, and optometry services.

“For a government claiming it wants to shift the focus from illness treatment to illness prevention, the delisting of these services is clearly a step backward,” says Mr. Ouellette. “The McGuinty government is hurting working Ontarians. Expecting them to pay more for less is unacceptable.”

In the Legislature, Mr. Ouellette has presented literally hundreds of pages of petitions signed by thousands of frustrated and angry Oshawa residents who are demanding that Premier McGuinty reverse his decision to cut these services. The MPP has also taken the opportunity to speak against and debate this issue in the Legislature on dozens occasions on behalf of the citizens of Oshawa.

“I am extremely disappointed”, adds Mr. Ouellette, “Even with all the opposition from concerned Ontarians, Premier McGuinty and his government refuse to listen”.
