Ouellette Reintroduces Bill to Assist Ontario Auto Industry
Oshawa MPP’s original bill died when McGuinty prorogued parliament
QUEEN’S PARK – Oshawa MPP Jerry Ouellette today in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario re-introduced a bill that will help to promote the sale of vehicles made in Oshawa and Canada.
The bill, if passed, will require automotive manufacturers to disclose the percentages of the country of origin of motor vehicles and their components in all advertising.
“This made-in-Ontario approach will allow consumers to identify where vehicles and their components are manufactured and help to promote our domestic automotive industry”, says Mr. Ouellette.
Mr. Ouellette’s bill was previously before the Legislature but died on the Order Paper when Premier McGuinty recessed early in June and prorogued the session of Parliament.
The automotive industry is the engine which drives the economy of Ontario. Mr. Ouellette adds, “The province’s automotive plants currently produce the best quality vehicles in the world and it is important at this time that we give the manufacturers, the employees and their families all the support they deserve”.
