OUELLETTE APPOINTED MNR CRITIC FOR OFFICIAL OPPOSITION

QUEEN’S PARK – Veteran Oshawa MPP Jerry Ouellette was today appointed as Natural Resources Critic for the Official Opposition.

Mr. Ouellette has extensive background and experience in this portfolio and is well respected by his peers. He previously served as the province’s Minister of Natural Resources in 2002-2003, and also acted as MNR critic for the Official Opposition from 2003-2005.

“Jerry has the confidence of a wide range of stakeholders and people interested in the well being of our Natural Resource treasures”, said John Tory Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. “He also has a real passion for the preservation and stewardship of our resources in a responsible and balanced way and will end years of Liberal underfunding and stifling bureaucracy to restore MNR to its place of pride in the government and the province of Ontario.”

Mr. Ouellette has initiated local programmes to educate students and encourage youth participation in environmental and conservation practices. The classroom hatchery programme and Kids Fishing Day annually allow thousands of young people to learn and appreciate the outdoors and our natural environment.

“As an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, I share a deep passion and commitment to the management and the conservation of our natural resources”, said Mr. Ouellette. I will continue to hold the McGuinty government to account for its actions and I look forward to working with dedicated individuals, groups and organizations to enhance key outdoor objectives and conservation polices in the best interest of all Ontarians.”
